Whatcom Falls Wedding in Bellingham, Wa | Kashia and John

landscape image of a small waterfall and a couple sitting on a branch for their Whatcom Fall Park wedding recreation

When I had the chance to photograph two Washington local lovebirds for their Whatcom Falls wedding recreation, I fell over excited. Kashia and John were just about to celebrate their one-year anniversary, and they knew they wanted to make a few more beautiful photos together to commemorate their wedding. What better place then heading over to their local Whatcom Falls Park in Bellingham to do so.

Whatcom Falls Park is home to 241 acres and four sets of stunning waterfalls. Just steps from the parking lot, a stone bridge greets all who enter this verdant, mossy location. It’s hard not to think you’re stepping into a fairytale! Even more so when you get to traverse with a couple in love like Kashia and John.

There are 3.5 miles of trail around the area, winding through forest and meadows alike, but my favorite part is definitely the namesake of the location, "Whatcom Falls". We stayed near the entrance for a good portion of our Whatcom Falls wedding shoot, and you’ll see them depicted from different angles below. Located on the Whirlpool Loop Trail, Whatcom Falls is roughly only 10 feet of vertical water, but the surrounding cliffs span as high as 30 feet! During the summer, it is pretty common to see locals jumping from the waterfall into the punchbowl pool below.

Whether it was Kashia crawling down a hill in her white Belle Bridal wedding dress or balancing across a branch while her fishtail braid dangled in the air, it was so much fun getting to photograph these two and their adventurous spirit. We were also lucky to have Elizabeth Marie Makeup on board before this, as all the hiking might not have stood up to just any ordinary makeup. All in all, it was a blast to be able to create some new wedding memories for them at such a beautiful location. I tell all of my couples’ that their wedding day attire can be cleaned (I know for a fact that Kashia’s needed to be after this!), but the photos and memories you create with your loved one last forever. I know getting to photograph them for their Whatcom Falls Park wedding recreation will definitely live forever rent-free in my brain!

I’ve spent several trips hiking to this glorious destination, and getting to capture this Whatcom Falls Park wedding recreation was what all photographers' dreams are made of.
