DIY Quail Ranch Wedding in California | Rebecca and Travis

by California Wedding Photographer Jennifer Lourie

Whoever first said “opposites attract” probably looked into a crystal ball and saw Rebecca and Travis! Rebecca describes herself as a “type A, espresso chugging, fast-talking extrovert,” while Travis says he’s the “calmer, more introverted, quieter” one. But like puzzle pieces, this couple just fits. Rebecca draws Travis out of his shell, and Travis inspires Rebecca to be a better listener. As Travis says, “she’s the chocolate to my peanut butter.” Yeah, yeah…he knows it’s cheesy, but if you met this pair, you’d see just how accurate it was. And from the moment I read about them in the inquiry they sent me, I knew their Quail Ranch wedding celebration was going to be too.

After dating for seven years, Rebecca had definitely imagined what her future wedding day would be like. But like any self-respecting type A bride, she had to explore her options when the time came to choose her venue. Ten San Diego venue tours later, she drove up to Quail Ranch and knew she’d found the one. From the beauty of the space (something this photographer couldn’t get enough of!) to its effortless flow, it really is the perfect spot to say “I do.”

The morning began in a beautiful room outfitted with an antique mirror and white couches. Rebecca warned her makeup artist, Jazmin Uranga, that she was definitely going to cry during the ceremony. Aaaand out came the waterproof mascara! Rebecca mentioned how much she was looking forward to those sweet getting-ready photos with her bridesmaids, so I spent a little extra time on them before she stepped into her Bella Bridal Couture gown. The Badgely Mischka heels she chose perfectly completed her look! With a spritz of perfume from her mom, she was ready for the day!

Meanwhile, Travis and his groomsmen got ready in a room tailor-made for the guys! In The Lodge, a section of the venue filled with pool tables, antique furniture, and dark wooden accents, he spent a relaxing morning with his best friends. When the time for the first look approached, he put on a blue suit and burnt orange bow tie to match the bridesmaid dresses and shook off those last-minute nerves. You could absolutely feel the anticipation in the air as he waited to see Rebecca for the first time. After a festive first look, they decided to read their vows to each other privately. I love when couples make the most of these intimate pre-ceremony moments! And they make for some of the most beautiful photos!

Meanwhile, Quail Ranch cared for their guests, helping them stay cool under the California sun. And they really did think of everything! They provided sunglasses, parasols, water, and even delicious iced tea for the guests!

After Rebecca had a second first look with her dad, it was ceremony time! Because the officiant was a close friend of the couple, the celebration was uniquely filled with stories from their life together so far. It gave the whole celebration an extra-special feel you just don’t have when the celebrant meets the couple for the first time on their big day. The guests laughed, cried, and cheered along with the couple, and when they headed back down the aisle as newlyweds, they were absolutely radiating joy!

On the way to the reception, guests were invited by a champagne wall to #ToasttoTrabecca—a couple’s name endearingly given to them by their friends. And the fun didn’t end there! The drinks had special customization, too—a Sorority Spritz for Rebecca and a Bourbon Dweller for Travis. They even included a drink for their dog, called Lola’s Nightcap.

As the sun began to set, the sky looked like it was trying to match Rebecca’s vision for the day! The bridesmaids wore burnt orange dresses from Baltic Born and held flowers in a mix of deep maroons, burnt reds, oranges, and light yellows by Gilded Blossoms Bridal Design. Talk about the perfect combo for photos! The rest of the night was just as breathtakingly beautiful, filling their gallery with joy, romance, and love.
