Urban Wedding at The Maven Hotel at Dairy Block in Denver | Amy and Mark

Amy and Mark’s love story started in true rom-com fashion: talking crap on the softball pitch. OK, so it wasn’t exactly an “eyes-met-across-the-bookstore-while-reading-poetry” situation. But it sure was the epitome of who Amy and Mark are as people—fun, hilarious, and downright amazing! So, it should be no surprise that serving as their photographer on their wedding day was the joy of a lifetime!

Their big day began at The Maven Hotel at Dairy Block, where Amy got ready in the bridal suite with her sister and her mom. There was a beautiful moment as Amy read a sweet letter from Mark dressed in her plunging v-neck dress with a flowery lace overlay from Daalarna. Then, she slipped into her Badgley Mischka shoes which she’d DIY’ed to include her wedding date and future name on the bottom. This intimate touch made the wedding attire even more special!

We used the rooftop of The Rally Hotel for our chic first looks. The windy day made it a little chilly, but it reminded Amy of her family’s hometown, Chicago! It also made the wedding party photos more snuggly and full of laughter, because everyone had to cuddle together to keep warm. And the Christmas decorations gave a special sparkle to the portraits, too. After our quick first look, Amy and Mark were eager to get the show on the road! So, off we headed over to their ceremony for the main event!

The ceremony was held in a beautiful space with exposed brick and unique light fixtures that perfectly matched the modern aesthetic of their day. The bridal party walked down the aisle to the sound of a gentle guitar and violin. The groomsmen wore navy, and the bridesmaids were decked out in champagne-colored gowns from BHLDN. The bouquets, which Mark and Amy had made together at Designs Inspired By You, had pops of burgundy, which tied together with the whole color scheme!

But just like her personalized wedding shoes, the custom touches are what made the day so special. All of the décor was lovingly made by Amy, Mark, and their friends! The handmade signs and decor gave the day an even more family-focused, warm feeling. Amy’s cousin, a pastor, even officiated the wedding. And after the ceremony, it was off to cocktail hour, where the special homemade touches continued to shine.

Because we did the first look and most of the portraits before the cocktail hour, Mark and Amy could enjoy more of their special day with friends and family. They’d told me that this was the biggest thing they wanted from their day, and I was thrilled that we could make that a reality through a strategically planned timeline. “We really just want to create a celebratory vibe where we can have all our people together in one place with us,” they said. And if you’d been there for the reception, you’d know how perfectly that dream came to life!

To music played by the best wedding band I’ve ever seen, the guests hit the floor immediately! The Radio Band was energetic and even came down and danced with the crowd! And any night that ends with a show-stopping rendition of “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” is one I’ll never forget!
I loved photographing Mark and Amy’s romantic, fun-filled, chic wedding at The Maven Hotel at Dairy Block in Denver. These two bring such a vibrant energy to everything they do! From their goofy, energetic puppy making an appearance during our first consultation call to Mark bringing cake pops to the wedding vendors to make sure we got to try them, everything about working with them was an absolute blast!
