Vizcaya Sacramento Wedding | Melissa and Martin

Melissa and Martin had a beautiful night wedding at the Vizcaya in Sacramento, Ca! Filled with winter touches like an adult hot chocolate bar, and neutral colors, the whole evening also combined Martin's Filipino culture and their love of nature and the outdoors. They wanted to keep things simple and elegant, to compliment their minimalist tastes. Mixing in greenery with their neutral palette, the whole wedding was just perfectly complimented the historical mansion venue of Vizcaya with subtle downtown Sacramento vibes. Built in the 1890’s, the mansion has several locations for ceremonies, and a beautiful reception hall. I have some quotes from Melissa spread throughout the photos, so scroll down to see what she had to say about all the beauty of their wedding!

Enjoy every moment because the day will fly by and be over before you know it.

For our ceremony, it was really important for both of us to include some traditional Filipino practices. In addition to the standard bridesmaids and groomsmen, we had sponsors walk down the isle as well. The sponsors were important family members of the grooms side that were invited by us to partake in prayers of blessings. Their participation is symbolic of wisdom and support.

Aside from the regular dinner menu of steak, chicken and a vegetarian gnocchi, we included a personalized and hand made hot chocolate bar that was made by my sisters mother in-law, Debbie Quick. She home made the hot chocolate herself and provided multiple topping choices along with alcohol to spike the chocolate. My favorite part was that she ordered personalized cups with our names and wedding our wedding date just for the hot chocolate.

I bought a cake topper that said Love You More. I liked this as soon as I saw it because it’s what Martin and I say to each other everyday.

She also hand crafted a beautiful photo backdrop just for us. All the greenery and flowers were hand picked and organized by her. We used this to take photos with our guests and it allowed our guests to grab a fun wedding themed prop and use it as a photo booth during the reception. This was probably my favorite piece. She embedded a secret faux bouquet within the backdrop that mimicked my actual wedding bouquet as a keepsake after the wedding was all over.

Don’t get lost in all the details. Stay focused and schedule things in a timely manner to save stress because things get crazier the closer the day comes.
